    Learning goals

    • Understand headshots and weakpoints.
    • Understand critical chance.
    • Understand critical multiplier.
    • Understand status chance.
    • Understand status duration.
    • Understand why crit and status are different.

    Explanation

Several things can improve damage results. Headshots and weakpoints can increase damage or trigger special interactions. Critical chance is the chance for a hit to become a critical hit, and critical multiplier affects how much extra damage that critical hit deals. Status chance is the chance for a hit to apply a status effect, and status duration affects how long that effect lasts. Critical hits usually answer how hard this hit landed. Status effects usually answer what effect this hit applied.

    Controls and smart use

Default PC controls can differ by platform and custom keybinds. If your controls do not match, follow the action name in Options > Controls.

    • Use RMB when headshots, weakpoints, or careful precision matter.
    • Use hipfire with LMB when enemies are close and precision is less important than speed.
    • Use controlled bursts instead of holding LMB if recoil prevents headshots.
    • Smart use: test whether a weapon naturally feels crit-looking, status-looking, hybrid-looking, or unsure before worrying about advanced modding.

    What should I do?

If a weapon rewards precision, aim for headshots or weakpoints. If it has strong critical stats, it may want critical-focused modding later. If it has strong status stats, it may want status-focused modding later. If it has both, it may become a hybrid weapon later.

How do I avoid wasting time?

Do not assume crit and status are the same. Do not ignore weakpoints on enemies that clearly have them. Do not expect status effects to work equally on every enemy or boss.

    Common mistakes

Watch for these patterns while practicing.

    • Ignoring headshots because body shots worked in early missions.
    • Thinking high status chance means direct damage is always high.
    • Thinking high critical chance means status does not matter.
    • Forgetting status duration can affect damage-over-time and debuffs.
    • Attacking armored or special enemies without understanding why they survive.

    Practical example

A weapon with high status chance may not show huge single-hit numbers, but it can apply effects repeatedly. A weapon with high critical chance may show large damage spikes when it crits. Both can be strong, but they solve problems differently.

    Key Takeaways

    • Headshots, critical hits, and status are three different ways combat results improve. Learn the difference before trying to optimize builds.

    Practical task

This prepares you for Modding Foundations.

    1. Open your Arsenal.
    2. Pick one primary or secondary weapon.
    3. Look at critical chance, critical multiplier, and status chance.
    4. Label the weapon as Crit-looking, Status-looking, Hybrid-looking, or Unsure.
    5. In a mission, try aiming at heads or weakpoints.
    6. Write whether precision felt useful.

You can tell whether a weapon appears to lean toward crit, status, both, or neither.
